Military Retirees Block Abuja Pensions Board Over Alleged Shortfall in Adjustments

Military retirees blocked the entrance to the Military Pensions Board office in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, on Tuesday over the formula used to adjust their pensions. The veterans placed chairs and canopies outside the gate, preventing access to the office. Soldiers were stationed at the entrance as the retirees continued their protest. They say the calculation does not properly reflect recent salary increases for serving personnel and has left some retirees short-changed. The protest follows a similar demonstration at the Ministry of Defence in September, after which the Defence Minister reportedly promised an increase in October. The retirees are demanding a pension adjustment they consider fair and consistent with the salary review for serving military personnel.
