Argungu Emir Urges Communities to Legally Arm Themselves Against Bandits
Amid rising bandit attacks in Kebbi State, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, has called on communities to lawfully acquire firearms for self-defence. He made his appeal during a meeting with district, village and ward heads at his palace, warning that criminals target areas with no means to resist. The monarch advised residents to raise communal funds and obtain legally approved weapons. He stressed that an open show of defensive capability can deter attacks and reduce killings, abductions and assaults on vulnerable villages. While urging lawful self-protection, the Emir cautioned against revenge killings or targeting other ethnic groups. He encouraged cooperation with security agencies and warned that vigilante actions must remain within the law to maintain peace.
