Is Obasanjo’s Support for Peter Obi Deepening Opposition Divisions?
I have noticed a recurring pattern as presidential elections approach. Whenever Peter Obi is discussed as a possible candidate who could work with a northern political figure, old allegations and criticism of Atiku Abubakar often return to public debate. At the same time, former President Olusegun Obasanjo is frequently seen publicly with Obi and has made comments critical of Atiku. I believe these actions, whether deliberate or not, make a serious Obi-Atiku alliance more difficult. My concern is that a divided opposition could again split votes along regional and party lines. This may strengthen the ruling party’s chances in a future presidential election. The key question is whether Obasanjo’s interventions are personal political battles or part of a broader strategy that benefits the incumbent government.
