Army Steps Up Rescue Missions to Free Over 400 Kidnapped in Ngoshe, Borno
The Nigerian Army has stepped up rescue missions after insurgents abducted hundreds of residents from the Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State on March 4, 2026. Defence Headquarters says troops under Operation Hadin Kai now lead intelligence-driven patrols and surveillance across the Gwoza and Mandara Mountains. They have also launched offensive strikes on suspected terrorist hideouts. Some captives have been freed during recent operations, but about 404 people, mostly women and children, remain in captivity. Insurgents released a video demanding a ₦5 billion ransom and threatening to kill hostages if the deadline is not met. Troops have increased their presence in the region and are collaborating with local communities to strengthen early warning systems. The military vows to deny terrorists freedom of movement and protect civilians in the North-East.
