Three Sitting Governors Reportedly Hold First-Class University Degrees

Among Nigeria’s 36 sitting governors and the FCT leadership, I found three governors reported to have graduated with first-class degrees: Alex Otti of Abia State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State. Otti reportedly earned a first-class degree in Economics from the University of Port Harcourt. Nwifuru reportedly graduated with a first-class degree in Law from Ebonyi State University, while Soludo earned a first-class degree in Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. If these records are correct, all three are Igbo. I see this as a notable achievement and a reason to celebrate academic excellence. The claim that only four governors since 1999 have held first-class degrees, including former Edo governor Oserheimen Osunbor, should also be independently verified.

Interesting list. Beyond academic results, what standards should voters use to assess how these governors are performing in office?

Shouldn't voters focus more on transparent budgets, public services, and accountability than on degree classifications?

First-class degrees are notable, but the post also reminds us that public leadership is judged by outcomes, not certificates alone.

The academic achievement deserves recognition, yet ranking governors by degree class can easily distract from governance records and public accountability.

A useful follow-up would compare each administration's stated priorities and measurable results, alongside the educational background mentioned here.
