Lindsay Clancy Child Deaths Trial Ends in Mistrial After Jury Deadlock

Lindsay Clancy Child Deaths Trial Ends in Mistrial After Jury Deadlock

A Massachusetts court has declared a mistrial in the case against Lindsay Clancy after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict on whether she was criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children in January 2023. Clancy pleaded not guilty on the grounds of lack of criminal responsibility. Her defence said she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis, anxiety, sleep deprivation and suicidal thoughts. Prosecutors argued that she was not psychotic and had deliberately planned the killings. The jury deliberated for more than 36 hours across seven days. The prosecution must now decide whether to seek a retrial, negotiate a plea agreement or discontinue the case. Clancy remains under psychiatric care as the court considers the next steps.
