Court Orders Police to Allow PFIPC DG Adeyemi Meet His Lawyers
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to give Adeniyi Adeyemi access to his lawyers while he remains in custody. Justice Obiora Egwuatu made the order while hearing Adeyemi’s fundamental rights suit. The court deferred his requests for release, bail and medical treatment, directing the respondents to show cause within 72 hours why the requests should not be granted. Adeyemi faces an eight-count charge of alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation over his claim to head the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an agency the Federal Government says it did not establish. He denies the allegations and insists the council exists. The House of Representatives is also investigating the matter after the council appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act. Lawmakers say they found no valid law or presidential directive establishing the body.
