Army Storms Bello Turji’s Camps in Zamfara, Eliminates Scores of Bandits
Troops of the 8 Division Strike Force launched a pre-dawn raid on March 20 in Fakai and Isa Local Councils. They clashed with heavily armed fighters from Bello Turji’s network deep in the Kagara Forest. In the fierce gun battle, soldiers responded to an ambush from high ground and forest cover. Several bandits were neutralised. Three soldiers and one DSS officer were wounded and evacuated to the 8 Division Military Hospital in Sokoto. Authorities also dismissed claims that over 150 bandits drowned in a river accident as false, as confirmed by a waterways official. Meanwhile, the Kwara South Security Joint Watch condemned local leaders for ignoring early warnings before armed men attacked an ECWA church in Ifelodun. Eight worshippers were abducted, including a clergy wife. Three hostages have since been rescued, but the incident has heightened calls for stronger security measures. At a Ramadan-Eid gathering in Lagos, Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen Waidi Shaibu underscored his commitment to troop welfare and morale. He honoured fallen soldiers, praised inter-agency cooperation and thanked the President for his support. The COAS reaffirmed that strong families and good living conditions are vital to defeating insecurity.
