PENGASSAN: Poverty and Falling Living Standards Are Fuelling Insecurity in Nigeria

PENGASSAN has warned that Nigeria’s worsening poverty and falling living standards are making the fight against insecurity more difficult. The association’s president, Festus Osifo, said many workers are under growing pressure as their incomes are stretched by the need to support unemployed relatives and other struggling people around them. He called on the Federal, state and local governments to treat poverty reduction as a shared responsibility. Osifo also urged stronger local governments that can respond more effectively to grassroots needs. He spoke during a dinner held to honour former PENGASSAN leaders for their contributions to the association since its founding in 1978.
