Babachir Lawal Alleges NDC ‘Moles’ Are Backing Atiku Ahead of 2027

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal has alleged that some members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress are working for Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Lawal made the claim while responding to reports that some NDC governorship candidates in the North-East opposed his appointment as the party’s regional leader. He alleged that Adamawa governorship aspirant Aisha Binani was behind the resistance and was backing Atiku rather than the party’s preferred presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. He described the protest as a charade and said the party’s national leadership would handle the dispute. Lawal also said some governorship candidates in Gombe and Taraba had contacted him to distance themselves from the statement rejecting his appointment.
