2027: Barau Jibrin Faces Kano North Setback as Supporters Join NDC

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin may face a tougher re-election contest in Kano North after Mustapha Yahaya Shuwaki, described as one of his grassroots mobilisers, and hundreds of supporters reportedly left the APC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Shuwaki said the decision followed consultations with supporters, community leaders and political associates. He said the group chose a platform they believe reflects the interests of Kano North residents. NDC leaders described the defections as part of a wider political shift ahead of the 2027 elections. An APC chieftain, Ibrahim Sani, said the departures could challenge the party in the district if internal grievances are not resolved. Barau's media team had not responded at the time of the report.
