Nigeria’s Dollar-Millionaire Population Rises to 8,100 After Years of Decline
Nigeria’s dollar-millionaire population rose by 12.5 percent to 8,100 in June 2026, up from 7,200 a year earlier, according to New World Wealth data reported by BusinessDay. The increase means about 900 more Nigerians now hold at least $1 million in liquid wealth. The recovery follows years of decline linked partly to naira devaluation. Nigeria lost about 1,600 dollar millionaires in 2024 and 200 in 2023. New World Wealth attributed the latest rise to a stronger naira against the dollar and growth in new businesses. Despite the rebound, the number remains far below the 15,000 recorded in 2013. Nigeria now has 22 centi-millionaires, up from 20 a year earlier, while its billionaire count remains unchanged at three. The report also comes amid capital-market gains. NGX Group estimates that recent reforms have created between 500,000 and 900,000 naira millionaires, a separate measure from dollar millionaires with at least $1 million in liquid wealth.
