Sanwo-Olu Warns Politicians Against Violence Ahead of 2027 Elections
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has warned politicians not to heat up the polity ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying no political office is worth the life of any Nigerian. Speaking at a public lecture on the 2027 elections, economy and security, Sanwo-Olu said opposition politicians would likely make fuel-subsidy removal a major campaign issue. He maintained that the policy was necessary to protect Nigeria’s economy and urged leaders to put long-term national interests above electoral calculations. Former Information Minister Lai Mohammed said elections should strengthen institutions, attract investment and promote peace rather than distract from governance. Former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel added that security is vital to economic growth and called for investment in jobs, skills, technology, access to capital and sectors beyond oil.
