Kwara Families Say Terrorists Reject ₦155m Ransom for 176 Captives

Families of 176 people abducted from communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State say the captives have spent nearly six months in terrorists’ custody. A community representative said residents raised more than ₦155 million in ransom through crowdfunding, but the abductors allegedly rejected it. He said the group threatened to force some female captives into marriage and kill other hostages if its demands were not met. Community leaders have appealed to the Federal and Kwara State governments, as well as security agencies, to urgently rescue the victims. They say prolonged captivity has left families in agony and exposed the hostages to grave danger. Senator Adamu Aliero renewed calls for state police, arguing that stronger local security structures could help states respond more effectively to terrorism and kidnapping.
