Ghana Rejects MTN’s GH¢20m Fund for Xenophobia Returnees

Ghana’s government has rejected MTN Ghana’s proposed GH¢20 million support fund for citizens returning from South Africa after xenophobic attacks. MTN Ghana said the fund was designed to help returnees rebuild their livelihoods through long-term support. The company had initially set aside GH¢10 million before increasing the amount to GH¢20 million. Authorities said support for the returnees should be coordinated through established government agencies handling their reintegration. More than 1,000 Ghanaians were reportedly evacuated from South Africa amid renewed violence against African migrants. MTN Ghana says it remains committed to helping affected citizens through other channels.
