SERAP Calls for Probe of ₦94.4bn in Unremitted Oil and Gas Funds
SERAP has asked President Bola Tinubu to order an investigation into more than ₦94.4 billion allegedly diverted, unremitted, unaccounted for or irregularly spent by the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. The group said the allegations were contained in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2024 annual report. It called for the recovery of any funds found to be improperly withheld or spent, prosecution where evidence supports it, and the publication of outstanding MDGIF audited accounts. SERAP cited alleged failures to remit petroleum-product revenue, natural-gas sales proceeds and gas-flaring penalties. It said some of the funds are meant to support environmental remediation in affected communities. The organisation gave the Federal Government seven days to act, stating that it may pursue legal action if the concerns are not addressed.
