ECOWAS Calls for Stronger Youth Leadership to Tackle West Africa’s Security Challenges
ECOWAS has urged young people across West Africa to take stronger leadership roles in peacebuilding as the region faces violent extremism, political instability, electoral tensions and economic exclusion. The call was made during a regional youth leadership training on peace and security held in Accra, Ghana, from October 29 to 30, 2026. The programme was organised with peacebuilding partners and focused on building young people’s leadership and policy skills. ECOWAS said greater youth involvement can help communities respond to emerging threats, strengthen resilience and support long-term peace and stability across the subregion.
