The Psychiatrist Who Finally Noticed Me
Part 1: The Beginning I remember my first day at work clearly. I was waiting at reception when my new manager led me through a long corridor to the Mental Health Team. That was where I first saw him: a young consultant psychiatrist in a white shirt and black trousers. I had never met a psychiatrist before, and I was fascinated by how ordinary he seemed. At team meetings, he spoke confidently about dementia, diagnoses and patient care. He always seemed to have an answer. I began to admire him, even though he barely appeared to notice me. Days turned into weeks, then months. A year and a half later, he suddenly asked whether I had completed a triage assessment. When I said yes, he praised my work in front of our colleagues. I was stunned. I had assumed I was only someone in the background, but he knew my name and had noticed my work all along. That moment changed something for me. To be continued.
