UK Court Jails Congolese Man for Life Over Murder of Nigerian Roommate

A UK court has sentenced Benjamin Katabana, a 28-year-old Congolese national, to life imprisonment for the murder of his Nigerian roommate, Uchenna Okirie, in Norwich. The court described the killing as a violent and unprovoked attack. Katabana must serve at least 20 years before he can be considered for release. Even if he is eventually released, he will remain subject to a life licence and supervision under the UK justice system. The case has drawn attention in Nigeria because the victim was a Nigerian living abroad.
