Sanwo-Olu Urges Banks to Fund Industries and Create More Jobs
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged banks to use their stronger capital base to provide affordable, long-term financing for industries, manufacturers and growing businesses. Speaking at the 2026 Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria Fellowship Investiture in Lagos, the governor said bank recapitalisation should translate into funding for machinery, production, agricultural processing, logistics and other job-creating sectors. He said Lagos is opening investment opportunities through the Lekki Deep Sea Port, industrial activity along the Lekki corridor, rail and road projects, and the state’s electricity law. He added that commercial banks should create more accessible credit products for small businesses while maintaining sound governance and responsible lending. The event also saw the institute confer honorary fellowships and other professional memberships on hundreds of recipients.
