China, Iran and the Limits of Strategic Alliances

I believe Iran should reconsider how much it relies on China for political and economic protection. Recent events involving China’s relationships with Nepal, Venezuela and Iran, in my view, show that Beijing may prioritise its own interests when crises arise. I also question whether oil sales, yuan-based trade and BRICS ties can guarantee support when a partner faces pressure from the United States or other powers. Reports that China may have restricted payments connected to Iranian oil exports have further raised these concerns. Nigeria should draw lessons from major-power rivalries. No foreign alliance should replace diplomacy, self-reliance and a strong focus on national interests.
