Two Nigerians Nabbed in Noida for ₦12.2B ‘Solar Spider’ Cyber Heist
Indian police have arrested two Nigerian nationals, Modebe Joseph (42) and Sunday Okonkwo (35), over an alleged ₦12.2 billion cyber fraud. The pair are accused of hacking cooperative banks under a syndicate known as “Solar Spider.” A joint operation by the Gautam Buddh Nagar Cyber Crime unit, Knowledge Park Police Station, and Meerut Zone cyber commandos led to the arrests. Officers tracked the suspects after receiving intelligence that the group had targeted banks with weak security systems. Investigators say the duo used multiple mule accounts to siphon off ₹60–80 crore, then converted the funds into cryptocurrency for overseas transfer. Police also linked them to a March theft of ₹7 crore from a Bhavnagar cooperative bank, executed over a weekend to avoid detection. Further probes are underway to trace accomplices and recover funds.
