Petition Alleges ₦1.8tn Budget Irregularities Linked to Senator Yayi
A petition by the Pan-African Society for Social and Economic Change alleges that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, influenced more than ₦1.8 trillion in federal budget allocations between 2023 and 2026. The petition was submitted to the ICPC and copied to the EFCC. The petition alleges that over ₦200 billion was placed under vague infrastructure headings in Ogun State. It also raises questions about alleged duplicated projects and large allocations routed through federal agencies outside Ogun, including research institutes and colleges. PASSEC further alleges that several contractors linked to the projects share addresses and may be connected to the same individual. These claims have not been tested in court, and no anti-graft agency has announced charges against the senator or any contractor. Yayi's office has described the petition as frivolous and said its authors misunderstand the budget process. The senator has asked the ICPC to investigate him if it finds evidence of wrongdoing. The allegations raise questions about the disputed budget lines, contracts awarded and projects delivered.
