Tinubu Says Naira Could Have Collapsed Without Reforms, Rules Out Subsidy Return
President Bola Tinubu defended the removal of the fuel subsidy at a state reception in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, saying the naira could have become worthless if his government had not acted. He said Nigeria would not return to fuel subsidy payments and argued that the reforms had reduced the risk of bankruptcy. The event followed an APC rally on Friday, November 6. Tinubu also criticised opposition presidential candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, questioning their leadership records. On education, he said his administration’s policy was intended to ease the burden on families and widen access. He added that money recovered by the EFCC would go towards the education programme. He urged Akwa Ibom residents to support his administration and renewed his pledge to help advance the Ibom Deep Seaport project.
