Pa Reuben Fasoranti Dies at 100, Leaving Legacy of Education and Democracy
Pa Reuben Fasoranti, educationist, pro-democracy activist and Afenifere leader, died in Akure on October 20, 2026, aged 100. His life spanned colonial rule, independence, military governments and Nigeria’s return to democracy. He taught and founded schools in Ondo State, including institutions that gave children from low-income homes opportunities to continue their education. He also served as commissioner for finance in the old Ondo State under Governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin. A committed follower of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s progressive ideals, Fasoranti opposed military rule and later led Afenifere. He remained a prominent voice on federalism, restructuring, education and accountable leadership. His death has renewed reflection on a public life defined by service, restraint and a long commitment to democratic governance.
