Enugu Sets Up Committee to Implement Judiciary Financial Autonomy
The Enugu State Government has inaugurated a Joint Technical Committee to develop a framework for financial autonomy for the state judiciary. The committee is expected to submit a preliminary report to the Secretary to the State Government by October 19, 2026. The committee will review existing legal and financial structures, resolve outstanding administrative issues, and verify government obligations to judiciary workers. This includes salaries, allowances, arrears and other staff entitlements, as well as the cost of implementing the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure. Attorney-General Osinachi Nnajieze, who chairs the committee, said the framework would allow the judiciary to set funding priorities and execute projects with greater independence. JUSUN representatives said financial autonomy is a constitutional requirement that could strengthen justice delivery in the state.
