Police Pay ₦2.3bn Benefits to Families of 2,971 Fallen Officers

Police Pay ₦2.3bn Benefits to Families of 2,971 Fallen Officers

The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed ₦2.3 billion to 2,971 beneficiaries and next of kin of officers who died while in service. The cheques were presented in Abuja under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare schemes. The payment covers insurance policy years from 2017/2018 to 2024/2025. The Inspector-General of Police said the funds are the legitimate benefits of personnel who lost their lives serving the country. He said the support cannot replace the officers who died, but it reflects the Force’s responsibility to their families. Beneficiaries were urged to use the funds for education, welfare and the future of their dependants. The exercise follows an earlier payment of ₦2.4 billion to 1,075 beneficiaries, as attention grows around the welfare of security personnel deployed against kidnapping, terrorism and other threats.
