Court Asked to Bar APC From Rivers 2027 Governorship Election
A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has been asked to declare the All Progressives Congress ineligible to field a candidate in Rivers State’s governorship election scheduled for February 6, 2027. The Peoples Redemption Party and its candidate, Kieghe Nature Dumale, are challenging INEC’s decision to retain the APC and its candidate on the final list. They argue that the APC’s candidate, Chinda Kingsley Ogundu, was not listed in the party membership register submitted to INEC before the party’s primary election. The plaintiffs also claim Ogundu appeared in the Peoples Democratic Party register for Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. They want INEC directed to remove the APC and its candidate from the election list. No hearing date has been fixed.
