Presidency Revives Offshore Assets Controversy After Obi’s Public Funds Remarks
The Presidency has criticised Peter Obi over his comments that Nigeria could have been far wealthier if past governments had managed public funds properly. Presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga referenced the offshore business interests linked to Obi in the Pandora Papers investigation. He questioned Obi’s credibility on financial prudence, saying the former Anambra State governor had not disclosed those interests while in office. Obi had said during a radio interview in Nasarawa that his administration kept public funds in three banks as an example of careful management. He has previously acknowledged the non-disclosure of his offshore interests but maintained that he did not break any law.
