Ebonyi Unveils ₦150bn Cement Plant to Boost South East Economy
The Ebonyi State Government has approved ₦150 billion in its 2026 budget for a new cement factory. A delegation of mining experts, industrial leaders, manufacturers, and builders will visit China to study suitable plant facilities. This team aims to secure the best design and ensure the project’s success. The proposed factory will be built where rich limestone deposits have been identified. During a recent inspection of the NIGERCEM site in Nkalagu, Governor Nwifuru highlighted 50 million tonnes of limestone in Nkalagu and 23 million tonnes in Effium. These reserves could support cement production for over 30 years. If completed, the factory could transform the South East’s industrial landscape and drive local economic growth.
