Amaechi Warns ADC Court Dispute Could Trigger Unrest, Urges Calm

Rotimi Amaechi has warned that the Federal High Court ruling on the ADC’s leadership and presidential nomination process could trigger serious unrest if the dispute is not handled carefully. He said he met with Atiku Abubakar and the party chairman after learning of the ruling, and that they agreed to urge supporters to remain calm. The court invalidated the leadership of the National Working Committee led by David Mark and decisions made at the party’s July 2025 National Executive Committee meeting. It also directed INEC not to recognise those decisions. The ruling followed a challenge by former ADC deputy national chairman Nafiu Gombe. It does not, by itself, amount to a final disqualification of Atiku or the ADC from the 2027 election. Amaechi disputed Gombe’s challenge, denied there was an internal rift and accused the APC of trying to exploit the dispute. He also discussed regional prospects for the 2027 election and recalled his unsuccessful bid for the APC presidential ticket in 2023, alleging that he held back from campaigning after assurances from then-President Muhammadu Buhari.
