Amichi Residents Petition Soludo Over Alleged Interference in Town Union Leadership

Amichi Residents Petition Soludo Over Alleged Interference in Town Union Leadership

A group known as Amichi Concerned Citizens has asked Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene in a leadership dispute involving the Amichi Development Union in Nnewi South LGA. The group accused the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs of entertaining parallel nominations for a caretaker committee. The petitioners said a court order has temporarily stopped leadership elections in the community following the expiration of the former President-General's tenure. They said the ADU's General Assembly consequently nominated a 12-member caretaker committee, with three representatives from each of Amichi's four quarters. They argued that recognising alternative lists from other groups could bypass the ADU constitution, deepen divisions and threaten peace in the community. The group urged the governor to investigate the matter and recognise the committee nominated through the General Assembly process.
