Sowore Faults NDLEA’s Cannabis Farm Raids, Calls for Regulation
Omoyele Sowore has criticised the NDLEA’s destruction of cannabis farms, arguing that Nigeria is wasting a crop with potential medicinal and industrial value. Reacting to recent operations in Edo State, Sowore said the country should regulate cannabis, fund research and create jobs rather than burn the farms. He argued that legal regulation could also generate revenue amid widespread poverty. The NDLEA said it destroyed two cannabis farms in the Ugboku/Igbanke forest in Orhionmwon LGA, with an estimated yield of 4,628.98kg, and arrested 10 suspected traffickers.
