Nigerian Man Charged in South Africa Over Alleged R10,000 Police Bribe
A 42-year-old Nigerian national, Augustine Chinedu Onah, has been charged with corruption in South Africa after allegedly offering police R10,000 to have a drug-possession case withdrawn. Investigators said Onah contacted members of the Hawks, South Africa’s priority-crime unit, and allegedly offered money to close the case against him. Police said an undercover operation was arranged, during which he allegedly paid R3,000 and promised to pay the balance later. He appeared before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court, and the matter was postponed to October 5, 2026, for a formal bail application.
