Can Osun and Kano Match Enugu’s Revenue Potential With Better Tax Collection?
If Enugu can generate about ₦400 billion in internally generated revenue compared with Lagos’ ₦1.77 trillion in 2025, Kano may also have significant untapped potential. Its local governments could raise more from produce taxes, while a well-run produce board could create another revenue stream. Osun reportedly has more NIN registrations, active SIM cards and registered SMEs than Enugu. This suggests that its economy and revenue potential may be larger than current collections show. Lagos has exceptional real-estate wealth, but Osun also has wealthy manufacturers, farmers, traders and hotel owners. With efficient tax collection, Osun could benefit more from industries such as cocoa and coffee farming, gold mining and refining, rather than relying mainly on high-value property transactions.
