How Communal Support Shapes Igbo Business Resilience and Interethnic Relations
I believe communal support and trade networks have helped many Igbo, Hausa and Kanuri communities build resilient businesses across Nigeria and beyond. In my view, cooperation among traders often creates opportunities that benefit entire communities, regardless of religious differences. I am concerned by ethnic stereotypes that portray any group as dishonest, uneducated or incapable of enterprise. Such claims deepen division and distract from the real work of building skills, supply chains, access to finance and fair economic opportunities for everyone. Nigeria needs more honest conversations about business competition, regional inclusion and historical grievances. Rather than treating economic success as an ethnic threat, we should encourage cooperation and policies that allow every community to prosper.
