A Roadmap for a South-South Economy Beyond Oil
The South-South states of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers have powered Nigeria’s economy for decades through crude oil and natural gas. However, dependence on oil has left the region exposed to global price shocks, environmental damage and unemployment. The Niger Delta needs a long-term economic roadmap that expands opportunities in sectors beyond oil. Such a strategy should aim to create sustainable jobs, grow local businesses and generate broad-based prosperity for communities rather than a small elite. I am open to working with business consultants and relevant public institutions to develop a practical Beyond Oil strategy for the region. The initiative could be coordinated by the Niger Delta Development Commission, the South-South Governors’ Forum, or an individual state government.
