FG Expands Cooking Gas Programme, Targets 10 Million Nigerian Homes by 2060

The Federal Government says its National Grassroots LPG Penetration Programme will reach more than 10 million Nigerian homes by 2060. The initiative targets one million households yearly and five million homes by 2030. The programme has now launched in Akwa Ibom after an earlier rollout in Bayelsa. About 27,000 filled cooking-gas cylinders will be distributed to women in Akwa Ibom, with beneficiaries eligible for up to six free refills. Officials say the programme will extend to all 36 states and the FCT through a cylinder-exchange system. The model is designed to bring refill points closer to communities, support women-led households and businesses, create jobs, and reduce reliance on unsafe cooking fuels. The government also launched a rural women entrepreneurship scheme in Akwa Ibom, under which 3,000 women are expected to receive ₦100,000 each for business and agricultural activities.
