Sowore Questions Coastal Highway Route Change as Ondo Communities Seek Review
Omoyele Sowore has renewed his criticism of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway following reports that its route may be redirected from Ondo State towards Edo State and the East-West Road. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the original Ondo alignment faced difficult terrain, deep pits and flooding risks that could raise construction costs. He said the revised route followed the President's directive to address those engineering concerns. Some coastal communities in Ondo State fear the change could deny them the economic benefits expected from the project. A community group from Ilaje has asked the Federal Government, National Assembly and anti-corruption agencies to support an independent engineering assessment and review of the project's costs.
