NEC Unveils 90-Day Cost-of-Living Plan but Gives No Dates or Funding Figures
The National Economic Council has endorsed a 90-day economic action plan aimed at easing the cost of living. The plan focuses on food affordability, tax harmonisation, completion of high-impact projects, investment bottlenecks and regulated household support. The council also approved a national project dashboard to show progress across the federation and track how fuel-subsidy savings are used. It said savings from gas-powered and electric transport should translate into lower fares for commuters. Single-digit inflation and interest rates by 2027 were listed as key targets, but no timelines, budgets or implementation details were released. In other developments, the House of Representatives has summoned major telecom operators over worsening network quality. A report also found that some schools continue to charge fees despite federal limits on graduations, while Ogun State approved a one-off ₦50,000 palliative for corps members at the Sagamu orientation camp.
