Bandits Kill Three, Abduct 16 After Raid on Sokoto Community
Bandits attacked Kagara community in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State on the night of September 19, killing three residents and abducting at least 28 people, according to community members. Residents said the attackers fired for about three hours after entering the community at around 8:58 p.m. One of those killed was Abdullahi Lawwali, a man with a mental health condition who was reportedly shot after refusing to follow the gunmen. Two other residents were also killed, while three people sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to Goronyo hospital. Residents said 12 abducted people were later released, leaving 16 in captivity. However, the Sokoto State Police Command said nine people were abducted and all had escaped. Community members have appealed for more security personnel, saying they remain exposed to further attacks.
