Former British Sprint Champion Leon Baptiste Jailed in Morocco Over Sexual Assault of a Minor

Former British sprinter and athletics coach Leon Baptiste has been jailed in Morocco after being convicted of sexually assaulting a minor. Baptiste, 41, had been reported missing after travelling to Morocco, where he worked as a consultant sprint coach for UK Athletics. He had told athletes he coached that he would be away from training for some time, but gave no further explanation. Moroccan justice officials said Baptiste was arrested in Marrakech in May and is serving a custodial sentence at Al-Oudaya prison. They said reports that he had disappeared were inaccurate and confirmed that he is in good health. The UK Foreign Office said it is providing consular support to a British national detained in Morocco.
