Suspected kidnappers reportedly attacked three commercial buses in two incidents along the Itobe-Achigili-Anyigba highway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The first attack reportedly occurred around 4pm near Ojuwo-Ajengo and Mamerebo settlement. A Peace Mass Transit bus travelling towards Abuja was intercepted after it encountered a barricade on the road. About two hours later, gunmen allegedly ambushed a Sharon bus and a Sienna bus near Ojodu and Ojuwo-Olijo village. Witnesses said the occupants of all three vehicles were taken into the bush. The number of victims has not yet been confirmed. Security personnel, including soldiers, police officers, local vigilantes and hunters, have reportedly begun a joint operation to rescue the passengers and track down the attackers.
