Flooding Displaces 3,500 Residents in Anambra as Enugu Communities Seek Relief

Flooding linked to rising River Niger levels and heavy rainfall has displaced more than 3,500 residents in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, according to the National Emergency Management Agency. Communities including Odekpe, Ohita and Atani have recorded damaged homes, shops, household property, livestock and farmlands. About 500 hectares of farmland have been affected, while damaged road sections have forced some residents to travel by water. No deaths or injuries had been reported during the assessment. In Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, torrential rainfall caused the Ivo Dam to overflow, affecting about 2,000 houses, farmland and a bridge. Several families were reportedly awaiting evacuation, while displaced residents have taken temporary shelter at a church in Okpanku. Emergency agencies say they are monitoring the situation and coordinating relief and safety efforts with state and local authorities.
