Ogun’s Ode-Omi Axis: How a Deep-Sea Port, Oil and New Roads Could Drive Growth
Ogun State’s Ode-Omi, Irokun, Eba Island and wider Ogun Waterside corridor are emerging as a potential economic hub. Proposed port infrastructure, oil development, industrial plans and improved road links could reshape logistics, production and trade in the area. The proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone are backed by memoranda of understanding between Ogun State and DP World. The projects are still at the development stage, but they are projected to attract major investment and support industrial activity. Eba Island’s oil exploration activities and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway add to the region’s potential. If roads, energy, ports, agriculture, processing and logistics develop together, the benefits could extend from Ogun Waterside to the wider Southwest and beyond. The key issue is implementation. Announcements must lead to financing, construction, operations, local skills development and real opportunities for surrounding communities before the projected economic gains can be realised.
