Police Officer Testifies That ARISE News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Was Pushed During Abuja Robbery

A police officer has told an FCT High Court in Jabi that ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu was allegedly pushed from her apartment building during a robbery in Abuja, rather than jumping while trying to escape. Assistant Superintendent of Police Douglas Ishaku gave the testimony on 29 September 2026, as the trial of 11 suspects resumed. Maduagwu, a 29-year-old lawyer and broadcast journalist, died during the attack on Unique Apartments in Katampe a year earlier. A security guard, Barnabas Danlami, was also shot dead. Ishaku said police investigations linked eight of the defendants to the robbery. He alleged that the first defendant shot the security guard and that weapons, including rifles, daggers and machetes, were recovered during the arrests. The prosecution said it plans to present video recordings of the suspects' confessional statements when the trial continues on 7 October.
