Bauchi Mosque Removes Imam Over Alleged Tinubu Re-election Campaigns
A mosque committee in Bauchi’s Madina quarters has removed Imam Dahiru Abubakar after accusing him of using sermons and gatherings around the mosque to campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. The committee said it had repeatedly cautioned the imam against political activity at the mosque. It said he continued to tell worshippers that Tinubu was not responsible for the country’s insecurity and economic hardship, and should be given another term in 2027. Abubakar said his sermons focused on fear of God, prayer and the view that insecurity across Africa could not be blamed on one leader. The committee also said it rejected his reported proposal to rename the community mosque after Tinubu, insisting that the mosque must remain a place of worship rather than a political platform.
