Bipartisan US Senators Urge Trump to Reverse Russian Diesel Deal
Seven US senators from both parties have urged President Donald Trump to reverse his administration’s temporary lifting of sanctions on Russian fuel imports. They argue that the move conflicts with a 2022 law intended to stop US funds from supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine. The senators said Congress was neither consulted nor given a legal explanation for the decision. Republican Senator Thom Tillis also said the agreement could be unlawful and could put American interests at risk. Trump said Russia had agreed to supply diesel to global markets as prices remain high. Diesel is widely used in farming, home heating and trucking, but analysts doubt the arrangement will deliver lasting reductions in fuel prices before the US midterm elections.
