Why Nigerians Must Challenge Both Government Failure and Excessive Pricing

We are too quick to blame the government for high prices while ignoring the excessive charges some businesses impose because they know a few people will pay. Many sellers cite labour, taxes, power, transport, touts and poor roads to justify steep prices. Yet some of them still pay their workers poorly and tell customers to walk away if they cannot afford the bill. After spending heavily at expensive restaurants, people use the suffering of poor Nigerians to complain about food prices while protecting their own luxury tastes. We must challenge individual greed as well as government failure. Across nearby borders, many of these same goods are sold for less.
