Tinubu Commissions Bodo–Bonny Road, Approves 8.9km Extension
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the 37.9-kilometre Bodo–Bonny Road in Rivers State, providing Bonny Island with a direct road connection after decades of waiting. The project was conceived in 1950 and commissioned on November 7, 2026. It is expected to reduce residents’ reliance on water transport and improve access to the wider road network. Works Minister David Umahi said the road cost ₦280 billion and includes about three kilometres of bridges across the Opobo Channel. He also announced that Tinubu had approved an 8.9-kilometre dual carriageway extension to connect the road to the East-West Road. The extension will involve 17.8 kilometres of reinforced concrete pavement. Umahi said it is expected to improve transport and support economic activity along the corridor.
